The first thing we want to let people know is that we never recommend withholding feed. You want your pig to grow according to its genetic line and maintain healthy organ development. Pigs that are not fed properly may stay small in stature but their organs will continue to develop according to their genetics. This can create a number of health risks.

We recommend that you feed your pig healthy snacks, fruits, vegetables, alfalfa hay. Feed Pot Belly pig pellets twice per day. The rule of thumb is 1/2 cup per 25lbs of body weight. In the morning and again in the evening.

Pigs have a natural bend to put on weight and they love food. It is easy to get carried away and want to please your piggy by feeding him/her dog food, milk and every scrap you can from the table. This will most assuredly make your pig fat. While this is desirable for a market pig. Potbellies are not market pigs.Pot Belly Pig Feed Recommendations Feeding your pig in this fashion will absolutely make him larger than intended. We have found that pigs fed in this fashion grow quicker, have larger bone structures and have more weight than needed. This can Be just as dangerous as stunting their growth. The unnecessary extra weight strains the back, muscles and tendons. This can cause just as devastating health risks as a pig that did not grow properly due to underfeeding. We recommend a happy medium. As pet pig owners we completely understand wanting to please your pet. As such we recommend providing healthy vegetable snacks v.s the commercial dog snacks. Open feed alfalfa hay, and use potbelly pig feed twice per day. Feeding your pig this way means that he or she has access to free choice food all day long.
